credits: | Master-course Nanobiophysics |
summary: | After successful attendance, the students will acquire basic science and engineering concepts on the interaction between the nanomaterials or nanoparticles and the environment, which will equip them to competently discuss the ecological, social and cultural issues surrounding the introduction of nanotechnology into the global market place. The students will learn and discuss the opportunities for application of nanotechnology to improve the quality of the environment and life, as well as the potential negative effects of nanotechnology on the environment and human health.
The following topics will, intra alia, be dealt with: Nanoparticles and the environment: Public perception of nanoscience and policy aspects Characterization of Nanomaterials: Classification of nanoparticle and nanomaterials, and analytical techniques for characterization of nanomaterials Nanotechnologies for environmental quality: environmental monitoring and diagnosis, nanomaterials for pollution remediation; and clean production (green chemistry using nano-catalysis) Nanoparticle transport and fate in the environment: nano-hazard assessment and nanotoxicology |
