summary: | After successful attendance, the students will acquire basic science and engineering concepts on the interaction between the nanomaterials or nanoparticles and the environment, which will equip them to competently discuss the ecological, social and cultural issues surrounding the introduction of nanotechnology into the global market place.
The following topics will, intra alia, be dealt with:- Nanoparticles and the environment: Public perception of nanoscience and policy aspects;
- Characterization of Nanomaterials: Classification of nanoparticle and nanomaterials, and analytical techniques for characterization of nanomaterials;
- Nanoparticle transport and fate in the environment: nano-hazard assessment and nanotoxicology.
