Prof. Cuniberti appointed as Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences (EurASc)

During its 2019 Ceremony of Awards, held on October 22 in Madrid, the European Academy of Sciences (EurASc) handed over the Membership Diploma to Prof. Gianaurelio Cuniberti. He has been elected as Fellow of the Materials Science division in December 2018. EurASc is one of the most prestigious learned societies in Europe. It carries the mission to promote excellence in science and technology and to strengthen their essential roles in fostering social and economic development and progress. Based in Liège, Belgium, the academy currently has about 650 members, including 40 Nobel laureates and 12 Fields Medallists.

EurASc aims at strengthening European science and scientific cooperation and benefits from the expertise of its members in advising European bodies in the advancement of European research, technological applications and social development. It has been founded to establish an efficient collaboration among scientists, researchers, educators, engineers and public authorities world-wide by promoting the interaction between basic and applied research and easing transfer of knowledge between scholars and end-users. "The European Academy of Sciences recognizes and elects only the best European scientists with a vision for Europe as a whole. Therefore I feel very honored that this prestigious Academy has elected me as one of its members. This is a great recognition for our work at TU Dresden!", says Cuniberti.

Prof. Gianaurelio Cuniberti holds since 2007 the Chair of Materials Science and Nanotechnology at TU Dresden and the Max Bergmann Center of Biomaterials in Dresden, Germany. Furthermore, he is Honorary Professor at the Division of IT Convergence Engineering of POSTECH, the Pohang University of Science and Technology, Adjunct Professor for the Department of Chemistry at the University of Alabama and was appointed as Guest Professor at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University very recently in September 2019.

With the election as Fellow, the European Academy of Sciences appreciates the lasting contributions Professor Cuniberti has made to a wide range of areas from nanostructured materials to molecular biosystems and electronic devices. His research activity is internationally recognized in more than 400 scientific journal papers. He initiated and organized numerous workshops, schools and conferences and took part in international research training networks, offering extensive opportunities for young scientists. He has given plenary and invited talks at numerous international meetings.
