Vibrational modes of carbon nanotubes: a force-constant-model approach

In this talk, I will discuss my diploma thesis work about the calculation of vibrational properties of graphene and carbon nanotubes. After recalling the basic concepts of lattice dynamics, I introduce some phenomenological models developed for sp2 hybridized carbon networks. Consequently, I will focus on the thermodynamics of carbon nanotubes, investigating the specific heat and the low-temperature thermal conductance by means of an analysis based on the Landauer theory of heat transport.
