Quantum Scattering using the Floquet formalism and classical chaotic scattering for an open system

Atomic systems in strong fields appear to support new quasibound states of matter supported by underlying chaotic structures, the chaotic invariant set, in the classical phase space. I discuss the construction of a Floquet Scattering matrix to study scattering of atomic systems in strong laser fields. I use as a model of electron scattering the neutral Cl atom in the presence of a strong laser field. In addition, I briefly discuss how the fractal structure of the classical delay time for this model system can be explained in terms of the underlying chaotic structure.
