Brief Bio:

Julian received his B.Sc. in Organic Chemistry from Lund University (2008) with Prof. Kenneth Wärnmark working on supramolecular organic nanotubes. In his diploma on Physical and Polymer Chemistry at Hamburg University (2008) with Prof. Stephan Förster, he developed microfluidics-based approaches to form nano-sized polymer particles and vesicles.

Funded by the DAAD and FCI, he worked at Harvard University (2009, 2010) with Prof. David Weitz on industrial spray drying and the microfluidic preparation of droplet templates for polymer material design and polymersome formation. Thereafter, he obtained his Ph.D. from Bayreuth University in 2011.

After a 3-year postdoc with Wilhelm Huck at Radboud University Nijmegen, he moved to Dresden in July 2014. Here, his work focuses on metabolic engineering of biological functions in hydrogels, the fabrication of polymer materials for 3D cellular tissue, and the design of surfactants for complex emulsions.
