Lars studied Bioprocess and Chemical Engineering at TU Dresden. He worked at a Research Associate at the Leibniz Institute for Polymer Research Dresden and the Max-Bergmann-Centre for Biomaterials studying protein adsorption to Biomaterial surfaces. In 2009 he received his PhD (Dr.-Ing.) from TU Dresden. He studied artificial supported lipid membranes for the incorporation of transmembrane proteins in the group of Prof. Carsten Werner. Lars continued to work on Biofilm related research in the group of Carsten Werner. In 2009 he joined the group of Prof. Douglas Weibel at the University of Wisconsin-Madison as a Postdoctoral Fellow and Research Associate. Lars worked on the localization and function of lipid microdomains in bacterial cells. In 2010 he was awarded a Postdoctoral Stipend of the German Research Foundation for a project: "Bacteria at interfaces: dissecting the mechanisms of bacteria attachment and growth on surfaces". In 2012 he joined our chair as a group leader of the InnoMedTec project: "Innovation in health technology: at the interface of man, ecology and technology".
