The first annual workshop and general assembly of the Dresden Center for Computational Materials Science (DCCMS) took place on Monday, October 20, 2014 in Dülfersaal, Alte Mensa at TU Dresden.

A general overview of DCCMS given by its Managing Director, Prof. Gianaurelio Cuniberti, was followed by scientific presentations on current topics of Computational Materials Science. Prof. Stephan Roche, who is currently DRESDEN-fellow at TUD and who will be member of the Scientific Advisory Board of DCCMS and Prof. Daniel Balzani, Open Topic Tenure Track Professor at TU Dresden introduced principles and applications of their work. Dr. Andreas Knüpfer, CTO of ZIH at TU Dresden discussed challenges and perspectives of High Performance Computing before Dr. Armin Plath, head of the Department Materials and Production Processes at Volkswagen Group Research gave an overview on Numerical Methods in Automotive Engineering and Manufacturing. During the Poster Sessions, the participants discussed highlights of their work and identified links for further cooperation within DCCMS.
