Single Walled Carbon Nanotubes (SWCNTs) represent an anisotropic and perfectly one-dimensional group of nanoparticles with extraordinary properties. Often, such nanoparticles are in solution, and it's necessary to bring them on the surface in an organized way. Different techniques for the alignment of non-covalently functionalized SWCNTs on planar unstructured and structured silicon surfaces are presented. Large area alignment by a modified dielectrophoresis technique is demonstrated. Key for such successful deposition is the control of the interface properties between the substrate and the SWCNT containing medium (liquids, vapors).
