Antonio Panes obtained his bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering at the Universidad Veracruzana, Mexico in 2012. His bachelor thesis focused on dye-sensitized solar cells in the group of Dr. Ebner Azuara. In 2013, he moved to Dresden, Germany, to pursue further academic specialization obtaining a Master’s degree in Molecular Bioengineering (2015) and a Doctoral degree in Engineering (2024) on the topic “Gas sensors and Biosensors based on Functionalized Single-walled Carbon Nanotubes” at the Chair of Materials Science and Nanotechnology, TU Dresden, under the supervision of Prof. Cuniberti. The results from his doctoral research led to the foundation of the startup company “SmartNanotubes Technologies” in 2020. Antonio is currently a postdoctoral researcher at the Chair working on the optimization of nanomaterial-based sensing platforms for point-of-care testing (POCT).
